Her family still shoots. And she certainly has not become vegan. But in a move welcomed by animal rights campaigners, the Queen is turning her back on fur.
She has decided that any new outfits will be made only with fake fur and at least one of her outfits that was trimmed with ermine is to be replaced with a substitute.
Buckingham Palace could not rule out, however, that she would continue to wear animal fur on some occasions, particularly state events at which her ceremonial robes are trimmed with fur.
The Queen’s decision was revealed in the new book by her dresser, Angela Kelly. In The Other Side of the Coin: the Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe.
