Record emanating from the National Assembly has revealed that Sen. Samuel Ominyi Egwu, (PDP, Ebonyi North Senatorial District), one of the former governors in the 9th Senate, sponsored 2 petitions and motions each at midterm.

One of the motions by Egwu was on the urgent need for the Federal Government’s intervention to end the serial killing of innocent and defenseless Citizens in Ebonyi State by alleged herdsmen. He urged the Senate “to condemn in strongest terms the various attacks on communities in Ebonyi State by alleged herdsmen leading to wanton destruction of lives and properties.”

He further urged the Nigerian Police and other relevant security agencies to carry comprehensive investigation of the dastardly attacks and to promptly arrest and prosecute perpetrators, as well as rescue kidnap victims that are still held captive and that the Federal Government and the Ebonyi State Government to put appropriate measures in place to forestall further attacks.”

Similarly, one of Egwu’s sponsored petition was against the Ministry of Education on the choice of location of the newly approved Federal College of Education in Ebonyi State.

The 2 petitions from Egwu gave Eboyi State a place in the total of petitions sponsored in the first half of 9th Senate.

Sen. Joseph Obinna Ogba (PDP, Central Senatorial District) sponsored only 1 motion in the period under review.

Like Egwu, Ogba’s singular motion was on the incessant Killing in Ebonyi State. He equally urged the Senate “to condemn in the strongest terms the various attacks on communities in Ebonyi State by alleged herdsmen and urged the Nigerian Police and other relevant security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation of these attacks in order to arrest and prosecute the perpetrator”.

However, Ogba has no petition to his credit, but led the state in bills sponsorship during the period under review.

Meanwhile, Sen. Michael Ama Nnachi (PDP, South Senatorial District) had no motion and petition to his credit during the period under review.

It is worthy of note that Ebonyi senators have sponsored 2.1% and 0.5% of the total motions and petitions sponsored at midterm.
