Ethan Ampadu is capable of filling the void of Cesc Fabregas’ exit, according to Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

Fabregas joined Monaco this month and Sarri has repeatedly urged Chelsea to sign a replacement for the midfielder.

Serie A star Nicolo Barella and Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes are believed to be in talks to join Chelsea, but Sarri hopes

Ampadu can rise to the challenge. ‘I hope the same for [Ethan] Ampadu,’

Sarri said after saying he hoped it would take Callum Hudson-Odoi two months to catch up with the level of the first-team . ‘Of course, playing as a central midfielder in our team is not easy.

We need to try and try and try in training, but I think that he is able to do it.

‘In the future maybe [he can play the Jorginho role], but we have to work. ‘The player who plays in that position usually touches about 120, 130 balls [per game], and so I think we need a specialist there.’

Ampadu is still only 18, and has yet to make an appearance for Chelsea in the Premier League. But Sarri has called on the Wales international as cover on the Chelsea bench for their last three league games.

Ampadu has played just three times for the senior team this season, while Fabregas made his first appearance for Monaco on Sunday.
