High Court sitting in Kano has ordered that status quo be maintained regarding the issuance, restraining the appointment of additional 4 emirates in Kano.
The court had on May 10th, 2019 issued an order restraining Kano State government from the appointment of the 4 new Emirates of the state.
Counsel to the applicant, A. B. Mahmoud argued that the defendants disregarded the order of the court which was filed on May 10th, 2019 and went ahead to inaugurate the new Emirate Councils on 13th and 14th of May respectively.
He added that the actions of the defendant undermined the power of the court which poses a great threat to the public interest and integrity of the court.
The Attorney General, Muktar Ibrahim noted that the passage of the law and appointment are all completed actions adding that the court order cannot be enforced.
Justice Nasiru Saminu noted that the order of 10th May 2019 subsists and that all parties should maintain status quo and adjourned the case till June 20th, 2019
