Prominent Civil Rights Advocacy group: – HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to quit immediately if the “Kitchen has become too hot for him?
The group has also reminded the hierarchy of the Department of State Services that they are serving the Nigerian State in a Constitutional democracy and that as a body set up in accordance with an enabling law, their actions must be guided to comply absolutely with the due process of the law meaning that they have no powers to emasculate or suppress citizens of their constitutionally guaranteed fundamental freedoms and that if they feel strongly that a citizen has breached any part of the extant constitutional norms then they should follow the due process of the law and should stop threatening citizens as if we are under a military dictatorship.
The Rights group has also carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari for alleging that past politicians and disgruntled religious leaders are mobilizing to force him out of office just as the group said the President should blame nobody but himself for manifesting crass incompetence and for practicing unrepentant nepotism in appointments which violates the constitutional principles of Federal Character. HURIWA has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to lead by example by commanding and controlling his security forces to go after terrorists and armed Fulani militia and kidnappers threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria. The corporate existence of Nigeria is not dependant on the continuous tolerance of a thoroughly incompetent government that lacks the decency of good governance.
“it is laughable that President Muhammadu Buhari does not realize that due to his high level of nepotism in which he appointed and has just appointed only Moslem Northerners into all internal security architectures, the truth which he is running away from is that Nigeria is imploding just as insecurity has threatened the territorial integrity of Nigeria. The heads of Immigration, Customs, DSS, NIA, Police, Prisons and just yesterday, President Buhari Constituted the National centre for the control of small arms and light weapons, NCCSALW and he appointed retired Major General A.M Dikko as the National Coordinator. So the President should blame himself for the imminent collapse of constitutionalism due to general collapse of security. Kidnappings, killings and general break down of law and order to an extent that 39 students of Federal forestry college in Kaduna and 27 students of Greenfield University in Kaduna have being in the captivity of kidnappers for a month without government securing them. Buhari should ask himself if this is how governments operate.”
HURIWA recalled that a statement from the Presidency’s official Twitter handle disclosed that the NCCSALW would be domiciled in the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA who himself is a Northern Moslem. Thee statement read in part, “The NCCSALW replaces the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons, PCSALW, and shall serve as the institutional mechanism for policy guidance, research and monitoring of all aspects of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Nigeria. “The pioneer National Coordinator, Retired Major General AM Dikko has served in various capacities in and outside Nigeria. He was a Course Director at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre and Chief Instructor of the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre. He was also a Military Adviser, United Nations Office for West Africa, Director Peacekeeping Operations Defence Headquarters, Commander Operations LAST HOLD as well as Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, to mention a few.” HURIWA condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for it’s provocative penchant for nepotism and running a federal administration as if he is running his clan or village chiefdom.
