Happening now at Umuahia, Abia State! Staff of Abia State Hospital Management Board, HMB, barricade road leading to their office at Aba Road Umuahia in protest over backlog of salaries arrears of 17 months owed them by the state government. This has created gridlock along the road to Golden Guinea breweries.

This is the pathetic condition of many civil servants in the state including secondary school teachers, workers of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, College of Education Technical, Arochukwu, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba; Pensioners to mention but a few. With barely a year and half to leave office Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is still struggling with leadership and governance with no legacy to bequeath to Abians.

At the moment the governor has been called out by APGA to explain how Faulks road Aba collapsed under a year after the state govt expended N6bn to reconstruct the road. The hardship being faced by pensioners and teachers attracted the attention of a philanthropist, Sir Chikwe Udensi who offered to pay Abia pensioners in form of palliatives.

But this gesture is being thwarted by state agents who reportedly stormed the venue of a documentation exercise at Umuahia and drove away the pensioners. But the philanthropist said he is undeterred by the brazen affront by state actors to undermine the noble effort to assist the dying pensioners in the state.
