Northern Nigeria is the most insecure, unprotected and most ‘dangerous territory on earth’ despise the fact that the President, Service Chiefs and heads of security agencies are from the area, Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani has revealed.

Sani also lamented that Northern Nigeria today is under siege, stressing that, North-West, North-Central, and North-Eastern states of Nigeria are all faced with  security challenges of banditry, Herdsmen and terrorism respectively blaming their political leaders for the deteriorating situation and calamity befalling the region for their lukewarm attitude towards addressing the issues.

Senator Sani, who was speaking during a courtesy call on him by delegations of Birnin Gwari, Chikun and the Zamfara people living in Kaduna on Tuesday at his Kaduna residence, said one of the things responsible for problems is sycophancy, which is now making the North bleeding in insecurity.

“We have no Jonathan or Obasanjo to blame for the insecurity in the North,” Shehu Sani said.

The Senator, who frowned at the level of insecurity in the region, said the residents must rise and question and challenge those in the position of authority to do what is right.

“Kidnapping is what we used to hear from far distance in the Niger Delta and South Eastern part of the country in the last fifteen to twenty years.

“When people are facing this kind of danger and tragedy, the most ideal is to face the situation and question those that we have elected into position of authority.

“The situation in Birnin Gwari is one that reflects the tragedy and danger that we are facing in the Northern part of the country today.

“Birnin Gwari, Chikun, Kajuru, Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and some part of Sokoto state are under siege. Northern Nigeria today is under siege, in the North-West, there are issues of banditry, North-Central, there are issues of herdsmen, while in the North-Eastern Nigeria, there are terrorism.

“If the Federal Government is responsive to Zamfara issues, it is because the state government has admitted that the state is under siege by banditry and kidnappers,” Shehu Sani lamented.

Sani, who was passionate and sober about the situation, said the situation has forced people to resort into buying anti bullet charms for protection.

He said the insecurity in Kaduna is as a result of the governor and government of the state not admitting to the security challenges.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, a Coalition of Birnin Gwari Associations, Nasir Khalid presented a letter to the Senator and for Senate President, Bukola Saraki, saying several communities are under attack by armed bandits, right from the eve of the general elections till date.

He said 40 drivers were killed in the last three months and several communities were ransacked, adding that people of Guriga, a border community between Chikun and Birnin Gwari, are flying enmass into the neighbouring town for receiving information of attack from bandits at the time they embarked the trip to Sani’s house.

Khalid lamented that on daily basis, people in their communities are being attacked by the bandits with ransom paid.

He said the bandits are mostly the local Fulani, Hausa and other tribes, saying they interface with some of them when delivering money for ransom in the night.

Khalid, who doubles as vice chairman, Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union, said they were in Kaduna to complain to their Senator over the tense situation in the area.
