Former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili has taken another swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that the president only enjoys travels and waving goodbye from his plane with no sense of good governance.

Mrs. Ezekwesili made the assertion following the departure of President Buhari from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday, en route to South Africa.

President Muhammadu Buhari departs for 3-day official visit to South Africa on October 2

Buhari left Nigeria for a meeting with South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, to discuss bilateral issues following the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians resident in the country. After noting Mr. President’s demeanor as he waved to Nigerians from the presidential aircraft, Mrs. Ezekwesili proclaimed in a statement “has anyone noticed the pure joy that washes over the face of our President Buhari when he’s waving goodbye from the steps of planes heading out of the country? Amazing. Truly amazing. Mr. President undoubtedly loves the good life. If only he’d govern well! As in govern well!”

Ezekwesili further cited the greatest failure of the President was the total lack on character he showed and continues to show on the tragedy that befell our Chibok Girls and their families.

“How does Buhari sleep comfortably in Aso Rock knowing full well that he failed Chibok Girls? Our 112 Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu have parents that President Buhari who talked about giving them Justice of Rescue has NEVER bothered to personally reach out to.”

The former Minister further added that “everything of the President’s conduct on their suffering was a predictor of his bad Governance to date. We have a President who takes lack of empathy to a record level. Void of the emotional quotient necessary for successful leading of a country, President Buhari substitutes good governance with ceremonial proceedings of government— receive visitors and travel abroad.”

“I want to remind the President as he savors the grandeur of his latest ceremonial pomp and pageantry that our 112 Chibok Girls, Leah Sharibu and parents have their eyes fixed on him. Saturday will be Day 2000 since the Chibok girls’ abduction. Where are they, Buhari? Where are our remaining 112 Chibok Girls? Where is Leah Sharibu?”

“How can it be total silence on these our Nigerian children that Buhari has ultimate accountability for their security and welfare? How can you, Mr. President leave their parents hanging with no closure? No serious leadership of a country would handle 2000 Days of abduction of 112 of her citizens with the levity of President Buhari’s administration. History will surely record that two successive governments and leaders of our country failed the children of the poor badly.”

“I maintain that the greatest ‘sin’ of our Chibok Girls and Leah Sharibu is to not be the daughters of Nigeria’s wicked political class. The tentative and lackluster attitude to rescuing them would never have happened to privileged daughters. A nation that hates its poor. As we enter Day 2000 of our Chibok girls abduction, think on this Buhari and surprise everyone by actually doing everything possible to bring them back.”

“President Buhari can carry on enjoying his travels and waving the country goodbye from the steps of his luxury plane and with a broad smile spread across his face. All we ask of him is to do Right by your citizens; especially the poor, weak and vulnerable like Chibok girls and Leah.”
