ROBBERY VICTIMS ON THE 26’“ SEPTEMBER. 2019 PROTOCOL:

With heavy heart I welcome Benue state governor, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom to

Ushongo local government to witness the tragic discovery among us.

We appreciate the Governor for his prompt response to our cry for help. We believe that your visit will douse the tension in our area and forestall breakdown of law and order. We thank you our proactive Governor.

Few days ago, the District Head of Mbagwaza, Chief Julius ernkpen called his Mbayegh counterpart, Chief Nathaniel Hoyo informing him that two people in hisjurisdiction engaged the services of two okada riders from Mbagwaza and after several days no one heard about them . The District Head of Mbayegh summoned a meeting of leaders of the two communities and demanded that the family of one of the suspects Mr. Iorwuese Kpila alias “Dr. Kwagh akorom menenge” should produce him. ‘ Eventually, the suspect, Mr. Iorwuese Kpila showed up on Monday, 21“ September 2019 in the house of the District Head of Mbayegh, Chief Hoyo who handed him over to the Police for investigations.

In the process, the suspect who was arrested along with some of his accomplices whose names are attached overleaf, confessed to the killings and burial of numerous victims of his operations in shallow graves in his compound near Gbatse, a few kilometers from here.

As at yesterday, eleven victims were exhumed and their bodies handed over to their families for proper burial. Names of the victims attached.

However, some of the victims are still in their graves at the horror site (suspect’s compound) where there is need for further search for more bodies.

We wish to commend the District Head of Mbayegh, Chief Nathanie| How and community leaders in his area for their positive role in uncovering this tragedy.

We wish to also acknowledge the role played by the police for their prompt response and thorough investigations so far and wish to appeal to them to follow up the incident to its logical conclusion.

We recall that about forty five years ago, a similar incident where someone killed and buried his victims in a nearby community here was arrested, prosecuted and hanged. We request that similarjustice be meted out to the suspects and their collaborators.

As a Council, we are determined to collaborate with the state Government to ensure peaceful coexistence in the affected communities and to forestall breakdown of law and order.

We equally pledge our support to the Governor in his efforts to stamp out criminality so that development can take place. It is’our hope that the Governor will extend support to families of the victims at this moment of grief.

Once again, thank you and God bless.
