Barcelona target Willian has openly admitted that he does not want to leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
Willian has been at Chelsea for over six years now and has become an integral part of the side as his brilliance over the seasons have made him one of the best in the Premier League, and quite possibly Europe.
There has been talk that he could be leaving at the end of the season as reports in the media have suggested that Chelsea may not be willing to offer him a new contract because of his age, and may be willing to let him leave the club on a free transfer, with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona eyeing up a possible deal.
But despite all that, Willian has recently past the 300-game mark for Chelsea and has been talking about his love for the club, while also putting in some stunning performances for Frank Lampard’s side.
Willian signed a one-year extension earlier this year, and is now keen to commit to Chelsea again, he was asked on SKY SPORTS if he wanted to stay at the club: “No, not yet. Honestly I’m happy here.
“I feel happy to play for this club but this situation is not in my hands. It’s in theirs.
“I wait for them. They know what I want, what I want to do. They already know so I wait for them.”
Frank Lampard has recently reiterated his desire to keep Brazilian Willian at the club.
He told the CHELSEA WEBSITE: ‘I know Willian’s qualities from playing with him, but when I looked at Willy over the last couple of years he was in and out of the team and I’m not sure; from the outside I want to see him happy, I know him and he’s a happy, really easy-going lad who loves his football,’ said Lampard, whose final campaign at the club in 2013/14 was Willian’s first.
‘That was the first thing, when I looked at him at the start of the season, I saw him being huge for me and the way we want to play. Naturally, on the ball we all know his ability to go by one-v-one and shift people and then cross or get shots away is big.
‘But the off-the-ball work he’s done is an absolutely outstanding example for Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, for other young players and wingers who think the only part of the game is going past people and crossing or shooting. He does the other side brilliantly, with absolute humility, so he’s been a joy and one of the experienced players that’s really helping the young boys.
‘The selfless side of the game is always a starting point for me. As we work as staff here, it’s how good can we be off the ball and think about on the ball afterwards. When you’ve got someone showing the example high up the pitch, that just reflects everywhere.
Although unwilling to discuss the finer details of contract discussions, Lampard carried on: ‘I can’t get involved in the money, that’s up to the club, but I think everyone sees from what I’m saying, and I’m relying on him and picking him and he’s producing, I love him at this football club,’
There are many out there that wrote Chelsea off at the beginning of the season as they lost star man Eden Hazard, lost their Europa League title winning coach Maurizio Sarri to Juventus and were unable to sign any players during the transfer window.
But if Willian, and the rest of the side, can keep up their good form and exciting football then Chelsea may indeed be able to add some more trophies to the cabinet as one thing they have proved over the years, is that they can never be written off.
And maybe, just maybe, Chelsea will decide to hand WILLIAN THE CONTRACT HE WANTS, as letting him leave the club for nothing would be a massive mistake from the club.
