The National Judicial Council (NJC) will meet today to deliberate further over the petitions against Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and acting CJN Tanko Muhammad.

Onnoghen was suspended on the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal by President Muhammadu Buhari, sworn in Muhammad in an acting capacity to serve as CJN.

On January 29, 2019, the NJC had adjourned its meeting till February 11, 2019, after issuing a two-week ultimatum to Onnoghen and Muhammad to respond to petitions levelled against them.

Both Justices are said to have responded to the petitions, but their responses have not been made public.
